Hey, I'm Sara!

Hi! I am so happy you’re visiting us at FureverDogMa! My name is Sara Witmer, and I am a dog addict! I come from a family of dog addicts. Dogs are in my blood. Life just isn’t worth living with out a dog or three.

The FureverDogMa Family

I am very happily married to my high school sweetheart, Brian! We have two wonderful children, Lexi (Alexandra) who just turned 13 and Wyatt, 11. We live on a 24 acre farm in Western New York with our 3 golden retrievers, 5 cats, 1 horse, and various farm animals. I love homesteading, but dogs are really my passion! I am even the leader of our county 4H Dog Club!

Where The Dog Obsession Began

Growing up, I was convinced I was going to be a vet. I honestly think by the age of 4 I had my whole life planned out. I knew what I was going to do and what school I was going to.

My entire life revolved around my animals, and, as far as I was concerned, it was going to continue for my entire life. I took every opportunity to work with animals I could. I rescued every injured animal I found and was on a first name basis with the local wildlife rehabilitator at the time.

When I was 9, we built a house right next to a dog boarding and training facility. I was in heaven! The first owners that I knew bred St. Bernards, but they really didn’t let me weasel my way in no matter how hard I tried (they may have thought I was a stalker, I’m not too sure).

Dedicating My Life To Dogs

Thankfully, not long after we moved in a new owner took possession of the kennels, Linda, and my life changed forever. Linda was a wonderful woman who saw my interest and took me under her wing. I learned how to properly bathe and groom dogs and cats, how to train, and of course clean dog runs!

As the years went by I was allowed more and more responsibility.  I learned so much from Linda and miss her terribly (Linda, if you’re reading this thank you so much!). She also taught me all the cheats to Zelda!

Linda showed American Staffordshire Terriers. I was in love with her dogs Falco and Lacey, and when they had puppies, Oh my gosh, did I want one! Unfortunately, even as far back as the early 90’s bully breeds were not well liked by home insurance companies and I was told no. It was a hard NO but with her guidance we found our first golden retriever, Rusty.

I think I was about 16 years old when another wonderful opportunity opened up. I don’t remember why or how it even came up, but my mother mentioned to our vet that I was interested in becoming a vet myself. He offered to let me come shadow him for a few weeks. That experience was priceless! Watching how he cared for and treated the animals that came through his doors just solidified my goals.

It's A Dog-Eat-Dog World

No matter how much you plan your life out sometimes things just aren’t meant to be.

I was 21 when my life was turned upside down. Out of the blue my heart rate started to spike to over 180 beats per minute every time I stood up and the anxiety that accompanied it was debilitating. This would happen constantly, and doctors could only tell me that I was crazy.

I was bed ridden for 4 months, I lost my job, and had to drop out of school. After an unsuccessful surgery on my heart life looked very bleak. The one blessing that came out of this darkness was my realization that not only would Brian always stand by me, but so would my dogs.

Brian stood strong by my side for years not knowing what was wrong with me and he continues to be my strength to this day, but Rusty and Loki were what kept my spirit going.

Brian had similar experiences growing up, his best friend’s mother bred and boarded dogs. The boys weren’t directly responsible for the dogs however, he did go through multiple birthing's and was exposed to almost every aspect of the process.

Those experiences influenced him deeply, and he was excited by my interest in breeding golden retrievers. Soon after we were married, I had a diagnosis, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, and life was back on track.

We brought two new golden babies home, Lily and Bear. Lily bore us several wonderful litters that were great experiences for us and our children. We kept our current dam Khaleesi from their final litter.

Our current stud is named Thor who is a big handsome boy who loves everyone and will play all day. Khaleesi has already given us three litters that we are extremely proud of.

FureverDogMa's Future

about fureverdogma dog breeders golden retriever puppies

We have been breeding for over 10 years now and always learning.

Balancing the dogs, the kids, the farm and life is sometimes challenging, but so worth it! The best part is we’ve passed our passion on to our children, who are very active in our local 4H Horse and Dog Clubs.

With everything going so well we decided to move on to the next adventure. In 2019 we decided we wanted to be involved in competitive dog showing and purchased a male with a great pedigree, Salem. He is currently getting trained and should be ready for his debut shortly. Don’t get me wrong my dogs are well bred dogs but they don’t have the lineage to even compete in the ring.

So, come with me on this magical journey of learning about man’s best friend, living with dogs, and trying to starting our own show line. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
